Food Deserts (not Desserts)

A food desert is a populated area where it is difficult to access fresh food. The “food” available is stuff that’s over processed and has very little nutritional value. Think of shopping for groceries at the Kwikee Mart where you buy gas. Not much there that’s good for ya but you can stock up on DingDongs and 725-ounce sodas.

This map shows the prevalence of these food deserts. It’s appalling that we have this in our country.

Friday’s challenge: Find a way to correct it.
If you are short on ideas, let’s start with an Out Hunger event there and bring in some of our partners who specialize in alleviating these.
